Counselors In Training (CIT)

We are actively planning for summer in 2021!  We learned so much during our 2020 season and we are returning to a more typical J Camps line-up of offerings in 2021, while continuing to follow all Maryland Department of Health and CDC guidelines to keep campers and staff safe.

About the Program

This leadership development program is designed to empower teens by offering new responsibilities, challenges, and adventures including roking with younger campers and team-building.

Our goals are to provide teens with real-life leadership development and opportunities for growth as role models for the younger campers, while having fun, making friends and enjoying some of the perks of being at camp.

CITs will alternate weeks between spending time with their own pods, and joining a bunk pod with younger campers:

Week A (with CIT pod)

  • Become oriented to the CIT role and learn about leadership styles
  • Participate in leadership development workshops to learn who they are as leaders and polish their skills
  • Participate in team-building activities to build a CIT communiyt
  • Experience on-site field trips and special guests
  • Enjoy the perks of camp (swim, play, craft, etc...) for a little taste of being a camper
  • Participate in all-camp events and spread the camp spirit, acting as role models from a-far
  • Create and facilitate games and activities for their peers to workshop for younger campers
  • Participate in volunteer and community service opportunities through a Jewish lens. CITs can expect to earn anywhere from 40-60 hours of community service

Week B (with camper bunk pod)

  • Work with the counselors of the bunk to assist campers
  • Lead activities and games for campers
  • Go through an evaluation and reflection process to assess personal growth and opportunities for future leadership development
