Indecent Panel Discussion and Scene Reading of God of Vengeance by Iron Crow Theater

Join Queer Theory Professors, Dr. Helen Lewis and Dr. Natka Bianchini for a discussion of Indecent, a filmed production of the Tony Award-winning play inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s play, God of Vengeance.  Iron Crow Theater will perform a reading of a section of God of Vengeance.

Presented as part of the Queer Jewish Arts Festival, a series of programs celebrating LGBTQIA+ stories and experiences through film, theater, music, and literature.

About the Artists:

Dr. Helen Deborah Lewis is an Assistant Professor of Theater at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee in Boston, MA. Her research interests include Queer Theatre and Performance, Drag and Gender-Queer Performance, Theatre Historiography, American Musical Theatre, and Popular Entertainment. She holds a B.A. from Brandeis University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Tufts University.

Dr. Natka Bianchini is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Loyola University Maryland where she teaches theatre history, directing, and queer theatre and film.  She has published widely on twentieth and twenty-first century American theatre and directing, including her book Samuel Beckett’s Theatre in America (Palgrave MacMillan, 2015) and the forthcoming volume she edited Albee and Influence (Brill Press 2021).   Natka has an MA and a PhD in drama from Tufts University and a BA in sociology from Wellesley College.  

Sean Elias is a Tony Award-nominated, internationally award-winning educator, actor, and director. Sean Elias currently serves as Artistic Director for Iron Crow Theatre, Baltimore's award-winning professional queer theatre. He is also the Founding Chair of the internationally award-winning Performing Arts Department at the Jemicy School - Upper School. The Jemicy School is a private school in Owings Mills, Maryland serving students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.
