Covid-19 Group Fitness FAQ's

JCC MASK POLICY- PLEASE READ 
Masks must be worn indoors at all times on our campus, except when actively engaging in vigorous exercise - as per rules set up by the Baltimore County and City Health Departments.  

Masks must cover your nostrils and your mouth and must be worn at these locations:

  • Outdoors near our Check-In tents and while moving around our grounds at the Aquatics Park, including to/from Outdoor Group Fitness, Tennis, Lap Swimming and Family Pool time.
  • Indoors when walking through our buildings,  in the Fitness Center when walking around, before and after a Group Fitness class.

Q. How will in-person Group Fitness at JCC work?
A. Members can participate in one Group Fitness class per day (indoors or outdoors). Class sizes are limited by the size of the space to allow for safe physical distancing. Schedules are updated on our website Sunday mornings. Registration will close one hour before the class begins.  Members must register for classes in advance. You will need to create an account in our scheduling software program GroupExPro using your email address. All classes will be listed on the same schedule as our LIVE virtual classes. For the latest schedule visit jcc.org/schedules or jcc.org/group-fitness-schedule.  Please be sure to check the location of your class before registering.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have booked a session for the day but you are not feeling well please go back into your account and cancel your reservation and for everyone’s safety please remain at home.

Q. What will be the difference between indoor and outdoor Group Fitness classes?

A: In Owings Mills, our Outdoor Group Fitness classes will be offered under a large tent on the 4th tennis court located in our Aquatics Park. Our Indoor Group Fitness classes will be held in the Group Fitness Studio, located near the CSA studio. All evening classes will now be indoors.

A. In Park Heights, indoor classes will be held in a separated half of our gymnasium and in Studio 1. Outdoor Group Fitness classes in the evenings will be coming to our rooftop court soon.

Q: Is there a cap on the number of classes/times I can reserve?
A: YES! To make sure as many members as possible have access, we are limiting activity reservations to one per day.

Q. Will you still be offering Virtual Group Fitness Classes?
A. YES, we will continue to offer virtual classes and our archived classes will remain on our website for the foreseeable future.

Q. Who will be permitted to participate in, in-person Group Fitness classes?
A. These activities are available exclusively to members, over the age of 16, whose accounts are active and financially up to date.  No guests will be permitted. Please note, all members who froze their account will automatically have their account reactivated with the opening of our Owings Mills and Park Heights buildings. If you wish to remain “frozen” contact our membership team at membership@jcc.org or 410.559.3512.

Q. What are the rules if I do NOT cancel my session and I do NOT show?
A.  Effective 10/1/20, penalty fees will take effect for the following:
No show for aquatics, group fitness, or fitness center reservations
Signing up for more than 1 fitness class per day (unless not  at full capacity 90 minutes in advance)
Signing up for more than 1 aquatics session and/or waitlist per day
Signing up for more than 3 aquatics sessions and/or waitlists per week

If you do not cancel your reservation at least 60 minutes prior to your time slot the following steps will be put in place.

1st Time: Membership will reach out to you

2nd Time: $10 fee will be placed on your account

3rd Time and beyond: $20 fee will be placed on your account and you will be unable to register for JCC activities for one week

If the session you reserved did not fill up, the fee associated with the offense will be waived.  If you have not shown up within 15 minutes of the start time, your spot will be given away to a person on the waitlist who is present on our campus.

Q. How do I cancel my reservation?
A. Go back to the original time on the schedule that you booked your workout session and hit the cancel reservation button. Penalties will be put in place for those members who do not show up for their reserved time. See General FAQ's for cancellation policy. 

Q. When does registration open for the coming week?
A. Registration goes live on Sunday mornings but becomes available by the hour. So if you want to book a 9:30am session on Monday, or later, you must book after 9:30am on Sunday or if you want to book a 6:30pm session on Monday, or later, you will need to book after 6:30pm on Sunday.

Q. What safety protocols will staff be taking?
A. All staff will have temperatures checked and answer our health questionnaire at the beginning of each shift. Staff are required to wear a mask at all times. Some staff may also be wearing face shields and gloves as needed. Group Fitness instructors may wear a face shield but not a mask while teaching.

Q. What happens if one of our visiting members or a staff person tests positive for Covid-19?
A. First, it is imperative that staff and members notify us as soon as possible about their positive test so that we can shut down our operations. At that point, our facility will be disinfected again and staff and members who were present when the individual was on site will be notified along with local health officials. The JCC will determine a re-opening date based on cleaning protocols needed and contact tracing results.

Q. What can I expect when I arrive at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills Campus?
A. For Outdoor Group Fitness you will follow signs to the Aquatics Park entrance for check-in. For Indoor Group Fitness you will come to the main entrance to the building in front of the Sapolsky Circle. You will need to check-in at our Medical Tent before going into the building for your member check-in.

Q. What can I expect when I arrive at the Weinberg Park Heights Campus?
A. You will enter our building at our main entrance and follow a new check in process. Be sure to follow the signs and directions of our staff.

Q. What should I expect from the Check-in Process?
A. Because of the multi-pronged check-in process, you should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your class time.

At every visit, you ​MUST arrive wearing a mask and you will be directed to stand a minimum of 6 feet away from other arriving members and staff. We will be taking your temperature. It must be under ​100.4◦ (f) for you to proceed. Next, we will ask you several health questions to help minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19 to other members or staff. Finally, we will ask you to use our contactless ID scanner – so please bring your membership card to ensure that this part of the process will go quickly. After going through this process, you will receive a wrist band that you must wear for the remainder of your visit.

During your first check-in, you will need to sign a Liability Waiver and a Code of Conduct form. If you would like to speed up this process you can download these forms at home and bring them in already signed. Download Liability Waiver and Code of Conduct forms.

Q: What kind of questions will people be expected to answer at each visit? What would disqualify someone from being permitted to attend a Group Fitness class?
A: At each visit, members will be asked questions about potential COVID-19 symptoms, contact with people who are or may be COVID-19 positive People will only be allowed access if the their temperature is under 100.4 degrees and they have not  been in contact with a COVID-19 positive individual, and answered no to any of the potential symptom questions.

Q. What are your policies regarding physical distancing?
A: At check-in, we will require a minimum 6’ of distancing between individuals and during fitness activities our policy is to maintain a minimum of 10’ of physical distance.

Q: What is the cleaning process going to be after the group fitness class?
A: Each area of the group fitness tent and studio will be sanitized after each session of activity.  Our housekeeping team will be sanitizing the spaces using disinfectant sprays, wipes, and fogging. We are asking members to help us out by sanitizing the equipment that they use.

Q: How do we intend to enforce social distancing?
A: JCC Staff will be enforcing our physical distancing policy.  Members who do not abide by the policy will be reminded to be physically distanced and if they continue to not abide, they will be asked to leave.

Q. How are you keeping restrooms and water fountains safe?
A. Restrooms will be continuously sanitized throughout the time the JCC is open and after each session. Due to health concerns, our water fountains are closed at this time. Please bring a filled water bottle to keep you hydrated during your workout.  Our vending machines will also have water bottles available for sale.

Q. What happens to Outdoor Activities if it rains or there are thunderstorms?
A: The JCC will monitor the weather including having a lightning detector on premises.  If the forecast is for inclement weather,the JCC reserves the right to cancel fitness activities for part or all of the day.  In the event of inclement weather, members should check the JCC Inclement weather hotline at 410.559.3586 for the latest update.

In the event that inclement weather occurs while we are open for activities, members will be directed to go directly to their car where they can decide to wait it out or go home.

Q. What about Safety and Security?
A: A security guard will be present at all hours that the JCC is operational. The local police and fire stations will be notified as to the JCC operations. At minimum, 1 staff person on site will be CPR/First aid Certified. First Aid Kit and AED will be readily available.

Q: Will I be allowed to bring food with me to the JCC?
A:  In trying to keep our facility safe and clean we ask that you do not bring any food with you to the property when you come to work out. 

Q: Will I be allowed to stay on the property after my class/session has ended?
A:  In trying to keep our facility safe and clean and the number of people on our campus to a minimum, we ask that you depart the facility shortly after your class/session has ended.
