JCC Safety Protocols

Dear JCC Members and Friends,

We are excited to welcome you back to the J.  Thank you for your patience and support over this past year. We could not have done this without you.

Our Center for Sports & Wellness Youth and Family teams, in consultation with LifeBridge Health and local health departments, have developed a comprehensive plan to ensure that your health, safety, and security are a priority. Both members and staff must follow our new policies so that we can protect our community. Access our FAQs, schedules, and forms below.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions and visitor limitations, we are not allowing any guests at this time, however prospective members can sign up for our three-day trial.

CHECK IN PROCESS - thru June 30, 2021

  • During your membership check-in you will have your temperature taken and complete a medical intake process including questions about COVID-related symptoms.
  • In your initial visit you will need to sign a Code of Conduct and Liability Waiver
  • All members must first make reservations online before arriving for their aquatics and fitness workouts.

USE OF FACE COVERINGS

  • All JCC staff and members are required to wear masks when arriving at check in - thru June 30, 2021.
  • Masks are now OPTIONAL for our vaccinated members using the Rosenbloom Owings Mills facility, except during check-in. Per the CDC’s recommendation, we are requiring all unvaccinated members and children under 12 to continue to wear masks. Learn more in our Mask FAQs
  • Masks are REQUIRED inside our Weinberg Park Heights facility, as Baltimore City continues to have an indoor mask mandate which requires always wearing a mask indoors, including when in the fitness center and during group fitness classes  - thru June 30, 2021.
PHYSICAL DISTANCING
Updated May 21, 2021
  • Physical distancing is recommended in all J facilities and programs at all times.
  • Exercise equipment has been removed or disabled so that proper distancing may be maintained.
  • Reservations for Racquetball are limited to two participants for singles play.
  • Reservations for Table Tennis are limited to two participants for singles play, with two tables set up in the second racquetball court.
  • Plexiglass has been installed in key membership areas, and health protocol signage has been installed throughout J facilities.

SANITIZING AND CLEANING PROCEDURES

  • Our enhanced round the clock cleaning procedures, using Hospital-grade disinfectant cleaners, help assure that all surfaces and high touch points are kept clean and free of bacterial build-up.  This includes the use of Electrostatic Antimicrobial Fog Sprayers that enables the cleaning solutions to adheres to surfaces and penetrate hard-to-reach areas including cracks and crevices
  • Fitness Center, Pools and Group Exercise studios are being cleaned between every reservation time slot. In addition, our housekeeping team routinely cleans throughout the day and a deep cleaning is done midday and at the end of each day.
  • Disinfectant wipes are available for members and staff to use in all our sports and wellness areas to kill bacteria, germs and viruses.
  • Touchless, hand sanitizer stations are readily available throughout our facilities.
  • Our Early Learning Center and J Kids All Day Childcare programs are following cleaning and sanitizing protocols recommended by local and national medical experts. Learn more.

VENTILATION: AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING UNITS

  • We provide regular preventive maintenance to our units including routine filter changes. Our air filters come with a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values (MERV) rating of 11. MERV ratings define the effectiveness of the filter against airborne particles which are measured in Microns. Each Micron is one millionth of a meter in size. We use MERV 11 filters in all J cooling and heating units, the highest filter recommended for our heating and cooling systems which also enable unobstructed air flow. MERV filters rated 11 catch particles that are 1.0 - 3.0 microns and are often used in hospital laboratories.

SWIMMING POOLS

  • Sodium hypochlorite is a CDC approved pool disinfectant which is applied in swimming pools for water disinfection and oxidation. At our Park Heights facility and all of our outdoor pools on the Owings Mills campus, we add sodium hypochlorite to the water in a form similar to household bleach. At our Owings Mills indoor facility, we introduce sodium hypochlorite by electrically breaking down saltwater. Disinfectant levels are continuously maintained by electronic controllers and are manually checked throughout the day. Ultraviolet (UV) light - an extremely effective sanitizer commonly used in medical environments and on municipal water supplies – is also employed at both of our indoor facilities. We run a large fan over our pools to help improve airflow in the natatorium to reduce the buildup of chloramines on the pool surface. Throughout the day we increase the fan speed and periodically exchange the natatorium air by bringing in fresh air from the outside.

Please Note: JCC Staff will respectfully insist that all health and safety practices are followed at all times. The J will also adjust policies based on local jurisdiction and state mandates and revised CDC and other public health guidelines as they become known. Thank you!
