Shalom Shabbat Project Coordinator

Summary

The Shalom Shabbat Project Coordinator (part-time) will work with the outreach team to expand Shabbat programming at the JCC of Greater Baltimore, primarily focused on families with children ages 2 – 10.  Shalom Shabbat seeks to create a variety of experiences for families to spend time together in a unique way that is special to Shabbat and has various access points from swimming, to arts programming, cooking, etc, The experience culminates in a communal Havdallah celebration, marking the end of Shabbat, that is family-friendly and multi-sensory. The overall purpose is to bring people together to enhance and deepen their abilities as parents and/or grandparents to create meaningful Shabbat experiences for their children/grandchildren.  It is a time for celebration, togetherness and exploration. 

Qualifications
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as, oversee program specialists and program providers.
  • Must be available up to 15 hours/week including on Saturday afternoons.
  • Must be willing to lead programming on Shabbat approximately once a month September - May.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with a variety of people.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to follow-through.
  • Ability to work across various departments and help in a “connector” role which requires strong communication skills.
  • Ability to connect with families with young children and to understand the values and priorities of today’s “New Jewish Family’.
  • Excited to work on the front lines of efforts to engage families who may have little to no familiarity with Jewish programming.
  • Basic knowledge of technology leveraged for both recruitment and data management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage all logistics for Shalom Shabbat programming, including booking specialists, developing program content, marketing materials and recruitment in coordination with the Senior Director of Outreach and Engagement and related staff.  
  • Work with the Senior Director of Jewish Life and Family Engagement Specialist to develop meaningful program content, both for Shalom Shabbat programming and as take-away resources for families to use on their own. 
  • To plan, implement and evaluate approximately 8 Shalom Shabbat programs between the months of September and May. 
  • Work with Concierge Manager and Family Engagement Specialist on both recruitment and follow-up for program participants.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
  • Participate in agency wide and departmental meetings, special events or other programming as deemed necessary.
Work Environment

The work environment is usually fast paced. This job requires high energy and interaction with staff, program participants and potential program participants with a strong value towards customer service. The work requires a variety of meetings in multiple locations and a willingness to meet people where they are at times convenient for them. 

Physical Demands
  • Requires long periods of sitting or standing.
  • Moderate use of a computer terminal screen, right or left-hand use, typing.
  • Grasping and gripping movements.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. Some lifting may require additional assistance from another staff person. Employee is expected to use discretionary judgement and ask for assistance from another employee if an item is perceived to be too heavy to lift without assistance.
  • Occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, kneeling and bending.
